Sexy Movies

I watched a Star is Born the other day, the 1976 version with Barbara Streisand and Kris Kristofferson.

The first time I watched it I was 12.

I don’t know how my girlfriend and I managed to tag along with her mother to see an R-rated film, but I do know this: it had a huge influence on me, in ways I didn’t even realize until I re-watched it the other night.  I see now that some sexy seeds were strewn in that dark Atlanta theater that germinated in my adolescent subconscious.

Ten years later, a Hopeless Romantic was born.

I was 22 and passionate about my bad boy, guitar playing boyfriend.

Does anyone else see the resemblance?

I blind folded him and lead him to a candlelit bathroom with a bubble bath and champagne thinking all this time that it was my own sexy idea.

It wasn’t:

I am amazed by how many other aspects of the film resemble my romantic life.

I share a secluded house in the West with my tall lean husband who gratefully is just enough of a bad boy to be endearing but not heartbreaking (much like our pitty) .  Our wood fired hot tub isn’t surrounded by candles but we have the ambient light of the Milky Way and moon. Admittedly, I even love like Barbara Streisand’s character, Esther: fully, passionately and to my own detriment at times.

What a sponge I was at that age.  Around that same time I got my hands on some copies of Penthouse Letters.  The Becoming A Person lesson in fifth grade at my Chicago Catholic grade school taught me about sexual reproduction. Penthouse Letters taught me about sex. No photos. Just words.

Twenty years later an Erotica Writer was born.

Sexy Conversation Starter:  What films, books, magazines influenced your sexy development?  I’d love to hear all about it in the comments.

Sexy link: In case you haven’t heard, Bradley Cooper has directed a remake of A Star Is Born with him and Lady Gaga in the starring roles.

A Star Is Born

May I suggest watching the ’70’s version first, and then taking in the remake (watch the trailer).

That’s two, sexy movie date nights.  For yourself or with your lover.  Enjoy!

  1. Wow… I see it all now….that was our fist experience of , drama, the pain of loving someone… my Mom must have been crawling out of her skin watching us watching this…. hmmmm…for the first time I saw loss and sadness and love.. little did I know what was to come for me? Loosing my mother– she was the love of my life at that point.. I had not loved a man yet?! i see the similarities of the love and idealistic ideas that were planted– Wow…

    • I love that we share this adolescent awakening, one of so many rites of passage, my forever friend. I wonder if it is giving you pause~ about how to educate/expose/ illuminate your daughters to the beauty, pain, rapture, passion, etcetera! of human sexuality. Now that sounds like a sexy conversation if you ever want to have it.
